Introducing That Mom!
For the mom who’s figuring it out. The mom who sometimes hides in the pantry. The mom who still dreams. We launch tomorrow!
Hello from my long and unintentional hiatus/hibernation period!
Forget who I am? Well, let’s have a little refresher! I’m Casey, once upon a time I was an NYC PR girl, then started my own business as a wedding photographer and ran that for six years and then I spent 2.5 years serving as a fractional-CMO to some incredible female-founded businesses.
(from the third trimester of my last pregnancy)
Today? I’m a mom of three, retired girl boss (will talk more about this in my first official newsletter!), self proclaimed Swiftorian (that’s Taylor Swift historian) and now author of this weekly newsletter. You can usually find me doing lots of wellness *tings*, on my Peloton bike, learning new songs on guitar, but mostly I’m making sure my children don’t burn our house or each other to the ground.
So thank you for being here (still) and going on all these wild rides with me, especially if you’ve been around for a while.
I am totally beyond excited to introduce you to That Mom!!
A community for mothers seeking joy and positivity in the chaos of modern parenthood. Break free from isolation, reclaim your days (and yourself), and prioritize your well-being without guilt.
Together, we'll cover everything from practical ways to simplify housework, how to embrace imperfection to finding those 'silly little things' that bring happiness—because becoming "That Mom" isn't about Instagram perfection, it's about creating a life that you love and becoming whichever version of That Mom makes you the happiest.
But before we do the deep dive into this new endeavor, I’d like to first dive deeper into what qualifies me as a mom whose newsletter you should subscribe to…
I have been a full-time work-from-home mom. I’ve done part-time work and part-time childcare. Today I am a full-time stay-at-home mom (SAHM), to which I prefer unpaid servant because it’s more representative of my job, I kid.
As moms we can isolate ourselves into categories and let the mommy wars win. We might say “oh that would never work for me I’m a SAHM/working mom/business owner mom” and maybe that’s true. But I also think if we put down our weapons, other people's perspectives can make us see our lives and ourselves in new light.
I am the living, breathing proof that there are many ways to be a great mom. I’ve tried a lot of different parenting strategies (gentle parenting, hunter gather parenting, Montessori, etc.) and some times these strategies work, some times they don’t. What worked for my oldest, doesn’t work for my middle kid, but most importantly, what I’ve learned through the never ending trial and error, there are a million different ways to be a great mom.
Here’s how That Mom will be different from other motherhood-centered publications.
I want this to be about you and your motherhood.
This isn’t about the kids. If you’re looking for parenting advice, you won’t find it here. After my first kid turned three, I gave up the idea that I knew what I was doing.
If you are looking for a space that will help you rediscover yourself and help you become the person and the mother that will make you feel the most fulfilled - you’re here! This is the place.
And that’s what I’m committed to in writing weekly here for That Mom. I want to shine the light on motherhood's positivity because motherhood today needs some good PR.
Take back your days. Enjoy being with your kids. Focus on your well-being. Uncomplicate your house. Do the silly little things that make you happy. Become That Mom.
There’s some things that are really important to me in creating this space and I’ve been working for months to clearly define the brand mission, tone and voice of That Mom.
The rules of That Mom:
We definitely talk about That Mom. No seriously. It would mean the most if you shared the link to subscribe with any new moms, moms to be or moms you think might like this space.
This is a no judgment zone. You will not find “best practices” here. If there is parenting advice, it will be minimal or completely untrue and for humor purposes only. We listen and we don’t judge!
Absolutely no Mommy Wars talk tolerated. All moms are welcome and appreciated here. Breastfeed? Welcome. Formula? Welcome. No Screens? Welcome. Unlimited screens? Welcome. In the clurb we’re all moms doing our very best to not go insane. Put those weapons down. None of us know what we’re doing lol.
We acknowledge that in motherhood there are endless ways to be a great mom. The limit does not exist! We get to choose our own adventure. This is our motherhood too.
So, if you’re ready for tangible tips to reclaim your days, rediscover yourself, simplify your daily life and find joy in motherhood - you’re in the right place.
what can you expect from this substack?
I've been sharing online since 2009 when I started my first blog (back in the Google Reader days!). While platforms have changed over the years, my passion for creating meaningful content hasn't.
You might wonder why I'm launching a paid newsletter after sharing for free for so long. I'll be honest with you:
Yes, I hope this becomes an income stream while I'm dedicating my time to raising my children. I promise to deliver value that's worth every penny.
The paywall creates a more intimate space where I can share personal insights I wouldn't feel comfortable posting on the open internet.
As our community grows, paid subscribers will enjoy exclusive benefits like community discussions, audio/video content, and other special features.
This isn't just another motherhood newsletter—it's a focused, intentional space designed to help you reclaim joy in your everyday life while supporting my work as a creator.
what you get as a paid subscriber:
3-4 Premium Newsletters Monthly: Focused content on reclaiming your motherhood, organizing your days, and prioritizing your well-being.
Home Management Systems: I ran my business for 8 years, and now I apply those same organizational principles at home. Get access to my proven systems, weekly meal plans, and kid activities that actually work (and don't drive you crazy).
Real Self-Care Strategies: Forget bubble baths and face masks—I'm talking about meaningful practices that help you reconnect with yourself and truly recharge.
Curated Recommendations: Only products and services I personally use and love—no sponsored content or random hauls, just thoughtful suggestions from one mom to another.
Growing Community: Join our supportive space for Q&A sessions, book discussions, and "fireside chats" where you can ask questions and get advice from like-minded moms.
Guest Perspectives: Learn from diverse motherhood experiences through carefully selected guest contributors sharing their unique insights and practical tips.
Direct Access to Me: As I shift away from social media, this community becomes my primary way to connect. Enjoy personal Q&As in a supportive environment free from judgment.
Full Library Access: Immediately unlock all previous paid content when you subscribe—perfect for a cozy evening of inspiration and practical advice.
what you get as a free subscriber:
If you can’t afford to be a paid subscriber just yet or - let’s be honest - you’re just not sure if you even want to - I get it. Free subscribers will still get one full post per month plus there’s always a little something before the paywall :)
Also, because again, having this be a two way street, if there’s anything that would make being a paid subscriber feel more valuable to you, I’m all ears! You can leave a comment on a free post or email me directly at caseycrowetaylor@gmail.com
Consider this your personal invite—
From my desk (slash dining room table surrounded by a coffee cup, my giant Stanley, kid artwork and the puree pouch I fed the baby for lunch) to yours, I’d like to invite you to join That Mom.
That Mom: a weekly newsletter to simplify your days, prioritize yourself and find joy in motherhood. Become That Mom.
I want this to be a space for moms to come and feel supported, uplifted, and inspired in their daily lives. Because spending most of your time with tiny demons, I mean humans, can really suck the life out of you sometimes. So this is where life will be breathed back into you okay?!
A little TLDR for ya—
Welcome to That Mom! Together we are going to take back your days, focus on your well-being and romanticize motherhood!
On this Substack, I’m committed to sharing more personal stories and creating high quality and encouraging motherhood content. Think…realistic tips to improve your day-to-day, easy ways to have more fun and self-care rituals beyond baths and skincare masks.
I want this to be a space for YOU. Yes, I’m here writing the things but my vision is to create a space where moms come to get inspired and uplifted. And with that, I promise not to hit publish unless I feel like I’m truly ADDING good to your life.
Truly, I’d be so delighted to have your support in creating this space. You know I’ll be doing a happy dance with every subscriber notification, free and paid!
Let’s reclaim our days and motherhood! It is our motherhood too, isn’t it? And moms just wanna have fun? Am I right?! Let’s get to it!
There you go making something cool and fun out of the gate! Love the mood board. I'm glad to see you back here! 🌻
Awesome idea, passing along to a couple friends who might enjoy it!
